NRDC Action Votes Congratulates Josh Shapiro

WASHINGTON (Nov. 8, 2022) – NRDC Action Votes congratulates Josh Shapiro on his election to be Pennsylvania’s next governor.

Shapiro ran against a polluter-backed climate denier who had pledged to remove the commonwealth from the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, an interstate effort to curb harmful climate pollution. That approach fell flat with voters who support efforts to hold polluters accountable and deliver clean air for all.

“Doug Mastriano lost tonight because Pennsylvanians want solutions – not conspiracy theories. In effect, the greenhouse gas initiative was on the ballot with this election, and Josh Shapiro demonstrated that proven solutions of fighting pollution and delivering clean energy enjoy broad support across the commonwealth,” said Jocelyn Steinberg, the director of NRDC Action Votes. “We look forward to helping Governor-elect Shapiro deliver on his promises to address carbon pollution while creating good jobs in the state.”

Given the stakes for the people of Pennsylvania, NRDC Action Votes and Conservation Voters of PA Victory Fund sponsored independent ads during the campaign that highlighted the differences between the candidates over efforts to curb pollution and address childhood asthma.
