NRDC Action Votes Unveils New “Pure-ish Michigan?” Ad Exposing How California Trust Funder Paul Junge’s Agenda Would Threaten the Great Lakes and Clean Drinking Water
NRDC Action Votes today launched a new ad in Michigan's eighth Congressional District race warning voters about how California Trust Funder turned candidate Paul Junge could threaten Flint’s drinking water once again and even put the Great Lakes at risk. Styled after the “Pure Michigan” tourism campaign since Junge is new to Michigan, the NRDC Action Votes ad highlights how big polluters are backing Junge’s campaign since he supports an agenda that would further risk lead contamination of Flint’s drinking water and even put the Great Lakes at risk.
“Despite everything Flint families and small businesses have been through, California Trust Funder Paul Junge opposes replacing lead pipes and protecting clean drinking water,” said Jon Colmenares, Deputy Director of NRDC Action Votes. “It’s no surprise that big polluters are lining up to support California Trust Funder Paul Junge because they know he is completely out of touch with Michigan and will be happy to sell out working families or risk contaminating one of our most precious resources, the Great Lakes. Michigan deserves better.”
Flint’s lead water crisis sparked a national wake-up call to the danger of outdated public infrastructure like lead pipes that contributed to the problem. Nearly 9,000 children were poisoned by Flint’s contaminated water and reported problematic lead levels, and the city infrastructure remains outdated today. NRDC Action Votes has been an outspoken champion on the dangers of lead pipes to communities. This ad is part of NRDC Action Votes’ Safe Water Is on the Ballot Week campaign that highlighted the issue in key battleground competitive races in New York, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Texas.
