Climate Ads Target Oz in PA Senate Race

WASHINGTON (Sept. 7, 2022) – The Senate campaign of John Fetterman is getting key outside advertising support from a pro-environment Super PAC starting today.

NRDC Action Votes is launching a $500,000 independent expenditure online advertising campaign that mocks Mehmet Oz for his weight-loss scams, his New Jersey residence, and his climate denial.

“When it comes to his views on oil companies and climate change, Mehmet Oz is as out of step with Pennsylvania voters as salsa is on a veggie platter,” said Jon Colmenares, the deputy director of NRDC Action Votes. “Cleaning the air and protecting our children’s health are key issues in this campaign, and we are making sure voters know where the candidates stand on them.”

Recent reporting shows that Oz has supported the polluters and oil companies funding his campaign, ignoring the need of the rest of us for clean air and a safer climate.

Voters in the Commonwealth are strongly in favor of measures to curb methane and carbon pollution, which is responsible for climate change, polling shows. Support for candidates who want to cut pollution from the coal, oil and gas industries dramatically increases when voters learn of their positions on the environment.

"Priorities is working hard to communicate with voters about the stakes of this election. Sending a Democrat to the Senate from Pennsylvania is crucial to the future of our planet," said Danielle Butterfield, Executive Director of Priorities USA. "Priorities is proud to partner with NRDC Action Votes and ensure that voters are getting the information they need about this election on the platforms where they are already spending their time. By connecting with voters online, we can empower them to stand up for the issues that matter most and make their voices heard."
